The Citadel Summer Camp announces 2006 dates

Forget the lazy, hazy days of summer. As parents know, summer vacations are getting shorter each year as many children either remain in school till mid June or return to class in early August. For that reason, The Citadel Summer Camp (broken link, formerly to has adjusted its traditional three-week sessions down to two two-week terms.

The first session will run June 18-July 1 and the second session will run July 9-July 22.

“We believe this change will allow us to serve more campers and better fit the schedule of busy parents,” said Jenni Garrott, the director of summer camp. “Last summer we had campers from 36 states, with some coming from as far west as California and as far north as Rhode Island. Since school calendars vary widely, this new schedule will allow us to serve more campers while also giving families options for other summer activities.”

The schedule adjustment will also coincide better with The Citadel’s school calendar since cadets involved in military training return to campus in late July.

The 2006 season will mark the 49th year for summer camp. Founded in 1957 by General Mark Clark, The Citadel Summer Camp is a residential sports camp for boys and girls ages 10 to 15.

The camp's mission is to provide learning experiences that encourage the development and strengthening of physical, mental, moral, ethical, patriotic, and social characteristics. The camp’s goals are safety, fun, team play and individual excellence.
