Resources & Rubrics

The Citadel Fact Book

Visit the online Citadel Fact Book for a wealth of information and statistics about The Citadel. The Fact Book is a resource provided by the Office of Institutional Research.

Association of American Colleges & Universities

The Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) provides valuable assessment and institutional effectiveness resources.

One important initiative of the AAC&U is its VALUE project: Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education. The VALUE project emphasizes authentic assessment of student work over standardized testing conducted outside of regular courses. Through the project, a team of faculty and academic professionals from across the country have developed 15 VALUE rubrics, which are beginning to see widespread usage. One way we use the VALUE rubrics here at The Citadel is to evaluate submissions to the students' online E-Leadership Portfolios. Individuals are permitted to reproduce the rubrics for use in the classroom; however, please see the AAC&U's acceptable use and reprint permissions information.

Founded in 2008 and based out of the University of Illinois and Indiana University, the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA) seeks to "discover and disseminate ways that academic programs and institutions can productively use assessment data internally to inform and strengthen undergraduate education, and externally to communicate with policy makers, families and other stakeholders."1

The NILOA's website provides useful resources, tools, reports, newsletters, and other assessment support to the academic community. Links to some of NILOA's resources follow. For access to all of the resources, visit the NILOA website.
