Corps Day 2006 - The 163rd birthday of the Corps of Cadets - March 16-18, 2006

One of the most highly attended Citadel attractions, Corps Day will feature dress parades, Palmetto Medal Awards presentations and athletic events as well as the cadet birthday celebration in the mess hall.

The Citadel Corps Day tradition began with the college's inception. Founded by statute in 1842, the first 20 cadets reported for class at the old Citadel on Marion Square in downtown Charleston in 1843.

Following is the weekend's schedule of events:

Thursday, 16 March

4 p.m. Rugby vs. VMI, Summerall Field.
6:15 p.m. Evening mess followed by The Citadel Corps of Cadets' 163rd birthday celebration, Coward Mess Hall (Not open to the public).
7:30 p.m. The Cadet Talent Show, McAlister Field House (Admission for non-cadets $3).

Friday, 17 March

1:30 p.m. Information and sale of mementos, Buyer Auditorium, Mark Clark Hall.
2 p.m. Citadel Family Association open meeting, Bond Hall, Room 165.
3:45 p.m. WLI Review to commemorate the 163rd Anniversary of the Corps of Cadets and to recognize Gold Corps Alumni, Summerall Field.
9 p.m.

Corps Day Hop, featuring "Rubberband", McAlister Field House.

Saturday, 18 March

8 a.m. Information, refreshments, sale of mementos, Buyer Auditorium, Mark Clark Hall.
8:30 a.m. Barracks and facilities open to visitors. Citadel Pipe Band will perform at each barracks. Barracks close at 10 a.m.
8:30 a.m. Rifle Team demonstration, new rifle range, WLI Field. All welcome to see the new range and meet the team.
9 a.m. Summerall Guards performance/ Bond Volunteers exchange of rifles, presentation of Anthony Griffin Sword, and presentation of Clubb Award, Summerall Field.
10:15 a.m. The Citadel Story - A musical narration of the history of The Citadel, Summerall Field.
11 a.m. Military dress parade, Jeep Review for Board of Visitors. Palmetto Medals to be presented, Summerall Field.
1 p.m. Blue and White Game, the annual inter-squad scrimmage concludes a four-week spring practice period, Johnson Hagood Stadium.

Sunday, 19 March

9 a.m. Protestant Service, Summerall Chapel, Reception to follow, Mark Clark Hall patio.
10:45 am Catholic Mass, Summerall Chapel, Reception to follow, Mark Clark Hall patio.
3 p.m. Military Order of World Wars, Massing of the Colors, Summerall Chapel.
6:30 p.m. Catholic Mass, Summerall Chapel.

Note - Schedule and times subject to change. In the event of inclement weather, outdoor activities will either be canceled or moved to indoor locations. Please check back frequently.

Parking during Corps Day
Parking will be directed by Citadel Police and cadet traffic control. No parking is permitted in Hampton Park. Visitors will be ticketed by City of Charleston.
