The Citadel celebrates National Engineers’ Week

robotics competitionIn celebration of National Engineers’ Week, The Citadel and the Charleston District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers along with the Charleston Engineers Joint Council, the Lowcountry Math and Science Regional Center and Ashley Hall School will sponsor several events:

Sat., Feb. 18 Citadel Annual Engineering Fair for Lowcountry Students

8 a.m.–noon, Mark Clark Hall Auditorium, The Citadel campus

The fair is held annually to expose Lowcountry middle and high school students to fundamental math and science principles vital to understanding engineering issues and methods. It features a model bridge competition, a robotics competition, Electrical Engineering senior design projects and interactive math and science student exhibits for students. All events are free and open to the public.

                              Model Bridge Competition

                                        Registration: 8–9 am
                                        Judging: 8:30–10 am
                                        Bridge Testing: 10–11:30 am

                              Robotics Competition

                                        Registration: 8–9 am
                                        Competition: 9–11:30 am

                              Compilation of Results: 11:30 am–noon

                              Electrical Engineering students senior design display: 9–11 am

                              Awards Ceremony: noon

Tues., Feb. 21 Charleston Engineers Joint Council National Engineer Week Banquet
5:30–9 p.m., Holliday Alumni Center, The Citadel, 69 Hagood Avenue

Tom MacTavish, vice president of Motorola Labs' Center for Human Interaction Research will speak on important trends in communication. Tickets are $25 per person and $15 for students. Mon., Feb. 27 Corps of Engineers Open House
9 a.m.–11 a.m., Holliday Alumni Center, The Citadel, 69 Hagood Avenue

This annual educational event is open to all high school students as an opportunity to experience and learn more about the engineering and technology fields. The open house will feature interactive displays from the Corps of Engineers, Charleston Air Force Base, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, Charleston-SPAWAR, the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), the Society of Military Engineers (SAME), The Citadel and others.
