Student scholarly journal celebrates 10th year

"The Gold Star Journal," The Citadel's student-run scholarly journal, celebrates its 10th year of publication this year.

Beginning Friday, March 10, a history of "The Gold Star Journal" will be on display in The Citadel's Daniel Library. The exhibition, which features past editions and photographs of cadet editors, runs through March 24. It is free and open to the public.

"The Gold Star Journal" was founded by chemistry professor Dr. Suzanne T. Mabrouk in July 1996 to promote academic excellence through the publication of cross-disciplinary, nonfiction papers. Selected works demonstrate effective research, critical thinking and writing skills. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit original, unpublished nonfiction papers that were written previously for a course at The Citadel.

The 10th anniversary issue features six papers, one each from chemistry and political science and two each from history and psychology. These papers were written by cadets Brian J. Amen, Anyanime A. Edem, Matthew J. Henfey, Harris C. Ligon, Alex M. Monte, and Mary C. Park. This year's editors are cadets John H. Bergmans, Matthew J. Harakas, James M. Russell IV, and Timothy A. Devine.

Copies of the 10th anniversary edition will be available on Corps Day on March 18. Visitors or others interested in reading the 10th anniversary edition can pick one up March 18 from cadets on campus, the Daniel Library or Buyer Auditorium in Mark Clark Hall. Copies will be mailed to cadets and faculty.
