This week marks a milestone for the Regimental Band and Pipes. The major rehearsals are over and the first big performances are now under their belts. They begin what will be a more routine way of life in Scotland.

On Sunday the band and pipes joined several other participants in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo for a parade through Holyrood Park. It's an absolutely stunning place with hills (extinct volcanoes) that we would call mountains back home. Thousands of people turned out for the parade and to cheer on the Tattoo performers. Afterward the cadets had their first day off since they arrived in Edinburgh July 28. This week the routine of morning's free and nightly performances at Edinburgh Castle begins. But first up is a trip to Glasgow on Tuesday.

Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and is located on the River Clyde in the west central lowlands. A person from Glasgow is known as a Glaswegian. While there the band will march in a parade around George Square and take part in a massed pipes and drums performance along with the New Zealand, Polish and Scottish bands here for the Tattoo. Afterward it will be back to Edinburgh to get ready for that night's Tattoo performance.
