To:                   Professor George Rudolph, Chairman, Faculty Council

From:               Professor Kyle S. Sinisi, Chairman Sabbaticals Committee

Subject:           Report of Sabbaticals Committee

1. As senior member of the committee, Professor Kyle S. Sinisi convened the committee for its first meeting on September 13. The committee then elected Professor Sinisi as chairman. After a discussion of procedural issues, the committee adjourned.

2. The chairman then published a call for sabbaticals, which included a timeline for the process. The committee next met as a roundtable on October 12 in the Greater Issues Room. The committee intended this meeting to provide information regarding sabbaticals to all those faculty thinking about applying for a sabbatical in the current AY. To that end, recipients of sabbaticals in the previous academic year made presentations on their research. A question and answer session followed with all members of the committee.

3. The sabbaticals committee received five applications by the deadline of November 14. The committee then met and interviewed each of the candidates on November 29 and 30.   The members cast their ballots by December 6, and two members of the committee (Kyle S. Sinisi and Jack Porter) tabulated the ballots on December 7. The committee then forwarded the results of the voting to the Provost on December 15.
