Rob Acunto is in his eighth year at The Citadel and is currently the interim athletic director. He was also the interim athletic director from June-August 2015. Prior to being elevated to his current position, Acunto was promoted to senior associate athletic director for external operations in September 2016. Prior to that post, he was the associate athletic director for administration and compliance.

Acunto came to The Citadel in 2010 as the assistant athletic director for compliance and academic services. Previously he was associate athletic director at American University from 2004-09 including a stint as co-interim athletic director for nine months during the 2006-07 school year.

While at American, Acunto managed the compliance office in addition to overseeing the department's facilities and operations, equipment room and strength and conditioning staffs. He also served as the athletic department's liaison between admissions, financial aid, human resources and the office of general counsel.

Before American, Acunto worked at Cornell where he spent three years as associate director of admissions and liaison between the athletic department, undergraduate admissions and the seven decentralized undergraduate colleges and admission committees. In that capacity, he provided leadership to the athletic department and university administrators regarding the successful identification, recruitment and enrollment of elite-level student-athletes for Cornell's 36 sports.

Acunto was also responsible for reporting all athletic recruitment data and analysis to the Ivy League, University administration, the athletic department and the seven undergraduate colleges. He also assisted with official visit presentations and administration of coaching orientation and development programs.

Acunto spent four years (1997-2001) as the assistant men's soccer coach at Vanderbilt before heading to Cornell. He provided direct assistance in all aspects of a highly-respected NCAA Division I program including team training, recruiting, travel, scheduling, scouting, NCAA compliance, fundraising and summer camps.

While at Vanderbilt he initiated several important administrative programs. He developed and implemented the first-ever contest management meetings and procedures for men's and women's soccer teams. He developed and produced the first-ever visiting team information booklets as well as the first-ever comprehensive facility usage and practice schedule for five varsity sports at three venues.

At one time Acunto served as the Olympic Development Program State Head Coach and Administrator for the Tennessee Olympic Development Program. Formerly, Acunto held a USSF "A" Coaching License.

Before Vanderbilt, Acunto was the head men's soccer coach at Bard College. He also served as a graduate assistant for the men's soccer team at Springfield College where he earned his master's in Sports Management in 1996.

A 1992 graduate of Bryant College, Acunto majored in finance and graduated with cum laude honors. He also played soccer at Bryant and was a two-year captain and All-New England Regional selection as a senior.
