Citadel archivist Tessa Updike will present a behind-the-scenes
look at unique historical materials. The presentation will feature
diaries and letters from the archives.

The Citadel Founding Date
S.C. Governor John P. Richardson first conceived the idea
of converting the Arsenal in Columbia and The Citadel in
Charleston into military academies. This was accomplished by
act of the State Legislature on December 20, 1842.

January 23

Citadel Authors’ Panel presented by Friends of the
Daniel Library and the Krause Center for
Leadership and Ethics

John Warley, Alexander Macaulay, Gary Nichols, and William H. Buckley
have all written books that explore The Citadel's history, culture,
and leadership. Join us for a discussion about the successes and
challenges of conducting research and writing books about The Citadel's
history. Books available for purchase and signing after the event.

February 27

Night in the Archives, Part II
6:40 p.m. - Daniel Library's Museum Reading Room

Join Archivist Tessa Updike for a special presentation on the history of photography at The Citadel. See unique images from our historical collections dating from antebellum Charleston to the present, and hear stories from our Archives. Free and open to the public.

Ribbon Presentation
11 a.m. - Summerall Field

On this day 175 years ago, the first cadets reported to the original campus on Marion Square. In celebration of the event, Washington Light Infantry will present members of the Corps of Cadets with a ribbon commemorating the anniversary of The Citadel.
