María José Hellín García

Dr. María José Hellín García is a Professor of Spanish at the Dept. Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures. Her main research interests are in metaphor discourse analysis, corpus approaches to the study of metaphor, and languages for specific purposes. She has published articles in the use of metaphor within political discourse on social issues. Other areas of interests are Spanish film and language methodology. She is the director and co-editor of the Journal “El Cid”. She is also currently the Placement Exam Coordinator (French, German and Spanish) and the Webmaster for the Department. She has directed several study abroad programs to Spain and Southamerica. She has also directed the Tau Iota Chapter of the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society at the Citadel, and was involved in the coordination of the South Carolina Spanish Teacher of the Year Award Contest.
