Elementary counselors often work individually with students based on teacher and parent referrals for additional support. The elementary counselor is often the only counselor in the school.
Middle School Counselors bridge the gap between elementary and high school counseling. They focus on individual and group counseling, as well as leading classroom guidance lessons. At the middle school level their is an increased focus on academics and career development.
High School Counseling focuses much more on individual counseling to help prepare students for college and career readiness. Counselors work with students to help them plan out classes that match their interests both academically and professionally.
